I have no trouble spending $25 or less on
something for my crafting but anything over $100 makes me quiver with fear. Despite
my Big Dollar Anxiety (BDA), I have - sort of - made the decision that I need a
yellow portable typewriter for the Beehive. I have my eye on two and either
would be almost perfect.
The thing that makes it not-so-perfect is the cost. Here’s
where you come in. Help me decide whether I should buy it or not. Before you make
your decision, I have to share one teensy-weensy little thing with you.
For Christmas, the husband bought me a sewing machine because I needed it, just
like I need the yellow typewriter. Hanging her head in shame she admitted to
all, “The sewing machine is still in its box…unopened.”
PLEASE Vote:
YES, buy it
or
NO, save your money
Leave your comment and help me decide. Best thing about my
request is that one lucky subscriber who leaves a comment will receive either a typewriter
stamp or a sewing machine stamp from me and VLVS. Deadline to vote is Friday,
March 15, 2013.
NO!!! Girl just check out some local thrift stores or "my tip for you" ShopGoodwill.com :) Kat
ReplyDeleteI say BUY IT. If your heart is set on a yellow typewriter, then you should have it!!!
ReplyDeleteIf only, ONLY, I could go back in time and tell my child self to not LOSE the amazingly cool blue metal typewriter that I got for Christmas when I was 7.... ohhhhhhhhhhh it kills me.
I think I had a rant about the Eiffel Tower home decor, once. It's scary how we share a brain at times.

I doubt you can find the yellow one at a thrift store, and if that's the one you truly want for the hive, then buy it! I have two old portable typewriters displayed, and a shelf above them with several typewriter stamps. I don't use the typewriters, but they remind me of all the years I spent as a secretary, and just seem to fit my style.
ReplyDeleteWell...the Beehive needs a yellow typewriter, this is for certain. If you can't wait to search thrift stores ( which I will look around for you anyhow, knowing you don't have alot of spare time)) then maybe you could sell the sewing machine to help pay for one of those you have your eye on. I think Hubby would approve, then. I think alot about getting one myself since I hate MS Word, you know, you just want to type something quick but Word won't let that happen! Turns something simple into a major painful project! I will check my thrift stores this week and report back. Have a great trip and you can tell me all about it when you return! Big bumble bee hugs!
ReplyDeleteYes buy it. You will not ever be happy with one in any other colour, and you will use it. The sewing machine will be used.... one day. I have had my sewing machine for 26 years there have been years that I have not used it and days when it does not stop. Now that I think about it I might need a typewriter too. xxx Michelle
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above poster...you will NEVER be happy with another typewriter...so, buy it! I LOVE the look of old typewriters {this coming from the girl who RIPPED HERS APART... I NEEDED THE BUTTONS FOR A LAYOUT - lol} I did find mine at a flea market...for less than $10, but I have NEVER seen a yellow one.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to see what you decide!!!

Oh, go ahead, buy it. If you can afford it and it brings you pleasure, go for it. I personally have a bread maker, laminator, and cricut that I had to have and they are still in boxes.
ReplyDeleteYou NEED the yellow typewriter! And as soon as inspiration strikes, you'll use that sewing machine
ReplyDeleteI say NO. Do not buy the typewriter. It might end up like the sewing machine. It is an expensive piece of home decor and you would have to use it a lot to make it worth spending the money. It also takes up so much valuable space. If you really want one maybe you could find one at a yard sale and paint it. (I am very practical!) Good Luck with your decision.
ReplyDeleteMiss Ellenbee, here is my 2 cents...if you has the green go gets the yellow! just go girl to that store and buy it quick before it's gone cuz YOLO!! besides, the sewing machine needs a little yellow friend anyway :) take care and good luck!!! buzzin bye bye, laura lulu (i'm signed in on my daughters google it just wont take mine!!)
ReplyDeleteYes, buy it..you may not need it at moment - but - one day you will and be so happy that you did get it after all..just buy it or you could sit there for days, should I, shouldn't I, driving yourself nuts on which way to go, plus a yellow typewriter just matches perfect with your room, go for it..take care
ReplyDeleteGiven the same situation I would tell myself no. So that's how I'll vote!
ReplyDeleteThrift store, goodwill are wonderful ideas. Painting it a wonderful idea. The used machines may or may not work. Also vintage typewriters are hard to find replacement parts and tape. Time is needed to paint the thing. Bottom line buy the newer typewriter in the color you love! Portability is a wonderful option to have as well! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI say - get the sewing machine out the box and use it - if you can do this then you can buy the typwriter as a reward :-))
ReplyDeletePS If only I could practice what I preach as another parcel arrives full of goodies I really NEED!
I vote no. I know its cute and yellow but its a novelty and expensive and will likely end up in a yard sale in a few years. Go with the hunt for a cool retro typewriter from Goodwill and save yojurself from some heavy guilt. What a buzz killer huh?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh girl! If you want it buy it!Life is way to short not to enjoy it. I can see you doing amazing things with it. Journaling, labels, mixed media art, etc. So please if it makes you happy - buy it and enjoy it! Besides - I never knew they made yellow typewriters. LOL! Hugs, Mary
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just have to buy something because you want it and not because you need it...go buy the typewriter and treat yourself. You deserve it, right.
ReplyDeleteI say BUY IT. A typewriter is much easier to use than the sewing machine. And since it is still in the box, you can try to sell it on eBay or the like. You can do such great things with the typewriter … such great things that I am off to cyber space to look for my perfect typewriter!! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for allowing me to put my 2¢ in!! Good luck!
YES! Typewriters are almost impossible to find! And, they are expensive. If you can afford it, buy it! You will certainly use it. And, it will be fun to look at. It will give you pleasure. Do somethng nice for YOU! Buy that yellow typewriter!
ReplyDeleteSave your money!!! They'll be another 'must-have' right around the corner.
ReplyDeleteSweet Ellen, have you read your blog title lately? "I have been waiting. For summer vacation, for Prince Charming, for a better job, for more money, for more time... I’m tired of waiting for life to begin." Girl, what are you waiting for? Go get it now! Candida
